CASE STUDY

Lady Nelson Commercial Vessel Survey

The Lady Nelson is a two-masted, square-rigged tallship built in Tasmania in 1988. A full-size replica of the original brig that brought the first European settlers to Hobart in 1803, the vessel is now operated by trained volunteers who offer voyages for tourists and locals on the Derwent River.

Under National Law, a range of surveys must be conducted to verify the compliance of commercial vessels and their equipment with regulatory standards. These surveys also aim to identify any deterioration or damage that could impede the vessels and their equipment from meeting the applicable legislation and standards.

ADEC Kedge’s qualified surveyors have been looking after the Lady Nelson since 2017 and were again engaged in September of 2023 to conduct the in-water and out-of-water components of the Lady Nelson’s renewal survey to ensure the safety of crew and passengers.
